Devil
Traditional Image: Stereotypical image of the Devil, with horns, wings and goat's hind legs. A man and woman bound with chains, usually naked.
Symbolism: The Devil image is actually the goat-footed God Pan, who represents natural instinct, pleasure and indulgence. The figures are only loosely bound, showing that they can free themselves should they wish to do so.
Overall Meaning: Nothing wrong with enjoying material pleasures, but you can easily become enslaved to them. But that bondage is only an illusion. You can free yourself at any time. This card is about taking control of your life and not letting your impulses control you. Vanity, ignorance, greed and addiction will keep you from achieving your objectives.
